“Tiatr Day” Celebration


Tiatr Academy Goa will celebrate “Tiatr Day” on 17th April 2010, the day on which the first tiatr “Italian Bhurgo” written and directed by Lucasinho Ribeiro was staged in Bombay in 1892.

To mark this occasion, Tiatr Academy Goa has planned a meaningful programme on that day. A book “When the curtains rise…the story of Goa’s Tiatr” written by Dr. Rafael Fernandes will be released at a function to be held at 10:00 am at the Conference Hall of Tiatr Academy Goa, Campal Trade Centre, Panjim. Shri. Prasad Lolayekar, Director of Art & Culture will be the Chief Guest while John Claro Fernandes, a veteran tiatr artiste will be the Guest of Honour. On this occasion a “Directory of Tiatr Artistes” will also be released.

Dr. Rafael Fernandes who has completed his thesis on the subject will deliver a talk on ‘History of Goan Tiatr’ on the occasion which will be followed by an interactive session in which artistes attending the function will participate.

Shri. Tomazinho Cardozo, President of TAG has requested all the tiatr artistes to attend “Tiatr Day” celebration in large numbers. Those interested in participating may confirm their participation through phone nos. 2230738/2230739 so that the required arrangement for lunch to the participants is made by TAG.

M.Boyer To Be Remembered

M.Boyer To Be Remembered

Konkani Singer Bab Andrew D’ Souza in collaboration with Tiatr Academy of Goa will stage a musical programme in different parts of Goa. The musical programme entitled ‘Padmashree M. Boyer hanchea kantarancho ugddas’ will be staged today (22nd April 2010) at 07:30 pm near KTC Bus Stand, Cuncolim. The same show will be performed at Goa Velha (Zuari) on 28th April, at Taleigao on 06th May and at Ravindra Bhavan, Sanvordem on 23rd May 2010.

The programme will depict memorable songs sung by Late. M. Boyer. They include ‘Ixttagoth’, ‘Goyche Convent’, ‘Mainchem Dudh’, ‘Dothik Lagon’ and his comic renditions namely ‘Kombo, Bokdi, Mazor’, ‘Choug Put’, and others.

Popular artistes of Tiatr Stage namely Albert Cabral, Soccoro de Santa Cruz, Aniceto Lourenco, Comedian Domnic, Comedian Luis Bachchan, Shaik Amir, Sonia and others will participate in the programme. The musical arrangement is done by Luis Cota. The musical show is directed by Bab. Andrew D’Souza and it is open for public.

‘Konkani Cinema Day’


‘Konkani Cinema Day’

On the ocassion of ‘Konkani Cinema Day’ on 24th April 2010 jointly organized by Dalgado Konknni Akademi and Tiatr Academy of Goa, a new konkani film ‘Nisha’ produced by Neville Pereira will be screened at the Conference Hall of TAG, Campal Trade Centre, Campal, Panaji Goa.

The film features Nancy Gomes in the lead role with John D’Souza, Roseferns, Diana, Socorro de Santa Cruz, Benny J. Ribeiro in the supporting roles.

The show is open to public and Konkani cinema lovers are requested to witness the film.

On this ocassion an exhibition of the photographs of the first Konkani film ‘Mogacho Anvddo’ will also be displayed. The first Konkani film was written, produced, directed and acted by late A L Jerry Braganza who is known as the Father of Konkani Cinema.

Dalgado Konknni Akademi in collaboration with Tiatr Academy of Goa will organize a special function on 24th April 2010 at 5:00 pm at the Conference Hall of Tiatr Academy Goa, Campal Trade Centre, Campal, Panjim to commemorate the screening of the first Konkani film ‘Mogacho Anvddo’ on 24th April 1950 in Bombay. ‘Mogacho Anvddo’ was written, produced and directed by A L Jerry Braganza from Mapusa, Bardez Goa.

On this occasion an exhibition of photographs of the film ‘Mogacho Anvddo’ and ‘Sukhachem Sopon’ both films by A L Jerry Braganza will he held. A newly released Konkani film ‘Nisha’ produced by Neville Pereira will be screened on the occasion.



Shri. Menino Pires, Director of Information & Publicity will be the Chief Guest while Shri. Dharmanand Vernekar, a film writer and director will be the Guest of Honour. Shri. Premanand Lotlikar, President of Dalgado Konknni Akademi and Shri. Tomazinho Cardozo, President of Tiatr Academy of Goa will grace the occasion.

Konkani film lovers are requested to attend the function in large numbers.

JOHN D' SILVA ENTERS LIMCA BOOK OF RECORDS

John D' Silva, the well-known writer, director, actor and one of the top most comedian of konkani stage entered Limca Book of Records of 2010 for writing, directing and producing 25 Konkani Tiatrs with their titles having a double Alphabet in it. They are, Vell, Dennem, Kolle, Ekvott, Vatt, Umannem, Sokallim, Menn, Avessor, Bott, Somzonni, Magnnem, Bovall, Kirnnnam, Porddo, Suknnim, Ugddas, Konn?, Vann, Vaitt, Jinn, Dhull, Xidkavnni, Voddem and Nattok. In the history of konkani Tiatr, John is the first Tiatrist to enter Limca Book of Records and it took him 12 years to create this unique record. His first drama "VELL" was released in 1996 and the 25th Tiatr "NATTOK" was released in U.K and Germany in 2008 and then it was shown throughout Goa.

He is the first Tiatrist to receive the first "YUVA SRUJAN PURASKAR" Award by Art and Culture, Govt.of Goa, for his immense contribution in the Tiatr field. Recently, Multidimension AIDS Awareness Social Trust(MAAST) from Margao, presented him Award of Appreciation for his Tiatr "Kuttumb" which conveys a strong message on AIDS and ill effects of Alcohol. He is rated as one of the best writer of the konkani stage as his dramas are always written with thought provoking script with logical dialogues, powerful message and moral.

In the year 1996 VELL and 1998 VATT were shown in Gulf countries i.e Kuwait , Qatar, Bahrain, Muscat and Dubai. In 2006 Tiatr Jinn and Vaitt were staged in Dubai . With his Tiatr troupe he has travelled to Mumbai, Pune, Thane, Karnataka, Maharastra, Delhi , London (U.K.), Canada and Germany.

To his credit, he is having 5 super Hit Comedy vcd films namely Duddvamkar, Fugddi, Jinn, Lofdde and Gondoll. John D'silva is an household name among Goans.

First Konkani Song & Music Awards Presented

First Konkani Song & Music Awards 2009 instituted by Tiatr Academy Goa was presented yesterday with an impressive programme at the TAG’s Conference Hall, Campal Trade Centre, Campal, Panaji, Goa. A citation, a trophy and a cheque of Rs. 10,000/- was awarded to each one of the following winners:
1. Best Male Singer – Anthony San
2. Best Female Singer – Nephie Rod
3. Best Lyricist – Lawry Travasso
4. Best Music composer – Sidhanat Buyao
The Best Audio Album of 2009 award was bagged by the album ‘Nisha’ produced by Neville Pereira. This award carries Rs. 20,000/- besides a trophy and citation.

Dr. Francisco Colaco, the Chief Guest, who gave away the awards to the winners, speaking on the occasion, appreciated the good work done by TAG in promoting Konkani Song and Music by awarding talented artistes in singing, composing music and lyrics. He suggested that TAG should document the history of Goan Konkani music as it has done with the history of Tiatr by recently publishing the book “When the curtains rise…’ written by Dr. Rafael Fernandes.

Mr. Tomazinho Cardozo, President of TAG stated that the aim in instituting “Konkani Song & Music Awards” is only to help in improving the quality of Konkani song in terms of lyrics, singing and musical composition. He further stated that the focus of TAG is to encourage Goan talents to produce Audio Albums of high standard.

Fr. Peter Cardozo, director of Pilar Music Academy and Joel Pereira, a musician of repute from Mangalore judged the male & female singing, composition of music and the best Audio Album. While the lyrics of the songs were judged by Shri. Jess Fernandes, Sahitya Academy award winner for poetry, and Fr. Nevil Gracias, a composer and director of tiatr.

An entertaining programme of Konkani songs and comedy skits was presented by Ben Evangelisto, Succorro de Santa Cruz, Sonia, Comedian Sally and Comedian Bryan.

Earlier Shri. Roseferns, Vice-President of TAG welcomed. Shri. Victor de Sa, Member Secretary of TAG proposed a Vote of Thanks. Shri. Anil Kumar compeered the function.

TAG’s Song & Music Awards

Tiatr Academy of Goa (TAG) has instituted awards for Konkani Song & Music audio albums. These awards are called ‘Konkani Song & Music Awards 2009’ Twenty (20) audio albums produced by Goan producers, singers and music composers during the period of 1st January 2009 to 31st December 2009 participated in the competition.

Konkani Song & Music Awards 2009 consist of following awards:-

1. Best Male Singer
2. Best Female Singer
3. Best Music Composer
4. Best Lyricist
5. Best Album of the year 2009

The first four awards carry a trophy and a cash prize of Rs. 10,000/- each while the Best Album Award carries a trophy besides Rs. 20,000/-

The award giving function is scheduled on 30th April 2010 at 05:00 pm at the Conference Hall of Tiatr Academy of Goa, S-1/S-4, Block-A, 2nd Floor, Campal Trade Centre, Opp Kala Academy, Campal, Panaji, Goa.
